“Molecular Plant”, a plant health journal, will host an online seminar on October 17-18, 2023. The two-session seminar will bring together researchers to discuss food security, climate change and plant health.
Kevin Pixley, director of the Dryland Crops and Global Wheat programs at CIMMYT, will present a recently published paper, “Redesigning crop varieties to win the race between climate change and food security,” on October 17, 2023, at 8:00-8:30 p.m. (GMT-6).
The paper assembled scientists from CIMMYT, the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and national agricultural research programs in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Tanzania and Uganda to predict novel traits that might be essential for future varieties of popular crops. The involved researchers surveyed nearly 600 agricultural scientists and stakeholders to identify probable agronomic changes in future cropping systems, seeking sustainability, intensification, resilience and productivity under climate change, as well as associated essential and desirable traits, especially those that are not currently prioritized in crop improvement programs.
