The International Seminar on “Digital Transition in Agriculture and Public Policies in Latin America” promises to bring together leading minds from the agricultural sector to address the transformative impact of digitalization on agriculture in the region. Set to take place from December 4 to 6, 2024, at the University of Brasilia, this event highlights the potential and challenges of integrating technology in agricultural practices, policymaking, and sustainability.
Themes and Objectives:
The seminar will explore how digitalization is reshaping agriculture, enhancing knowledge transfer, improving resource management, and revolutionizing market systems. Discussions will also address challenges such as bridging the gap between smallholder farmers and large-scale agribusinesses.
Collaborative Efforts:Organized by the PP-AL Network (Policies and Development in Rural Latin America) with support from CIMMYT, Bioversity-CIAT Alliance, IICA, and other partners, the seminar reflects years of collaborative research on agricultural digitalization. Contributions from 10 countries will culminate in a published volume in November 2024.
Event Format:
- Day 1 (Dec. 4): Opening sessions, keynote addresses, and panel discussions on the current state of digital policies and tools in agriculture.
- Day 2 (Dec. 5): Focus on digital services, territorial applications, and policy integration for sustainable agriculture.
- Day 3 (Dec. 6): A field visit to the Oziel Alves Settlement, showcasing a project on digital literacy with rural youth.
Notable Speakers:
Experts from CIMMYT, CIRAD, IICA, and Embrapa, among others, will share insights, along with public and private sector representatives.
