For nearly a decade, the CGIAR Research Program on Maize has contributed to resilient, equitable and socially inclusive maize agri-food systems. 2020 proved this work to be more necessary than ever.

WHEAT supported the release of 63 CGIAR-derived high-yielding and climate-resilient wheat varieties in 2020, boosting farmer resilience and income throughout the wheat-growing world.

Innovation in maize agri-food systems is critical to overcoming this century’s challenges. In 2019, MAIZE partners released 82 CGIAR-derived high-yield maize varieties with drought-, heat- and disease-resistant traits.

In its seventh year, WHEAT helped farmers grow nutritious, resilient and high-yielding wheat, through cutting-edge research and 50 new CGIAR-derived varieties.

Seeds of change

In 2018, MAIZE delivered development outcomes and impacts through varietal release, scale-up, delivery and adoption of climate-resilient and nutritionally enriched maize varieties.

WHEAT’s achievements in 2018 made an invaluable contribution to global food security, especially for the 2.5 billion people who depend on wheat for their livelihoods.
