Global wheat production has been growing to meet the increasing demand. In many regions and countries, wheat products are available at reasonable prices. However, consumers in both developed and developing countries are increasingly demanding wheat products which are beneficial for their health. In particular, there is growing demand for the products made from wheat landraces, ancient grains, modern bio-fortified wheat varieties, colored grain and organically grown wheat. There is also growing evidence from dietary trials on how different types of wheat may affect our health. Nevertheless, wheat health benefits are not prioritized in the wheat research agenda to the extend it deserves.
The objective of the conference is therefore to bring together wheat researchers and the human health community to exchange information and discuss strategies for improving the health benefits of wheat by exploiting diverse genetic resources, modern breeding and genomics and sustainable production and processing technologies.
The conference is conducted within the framework of International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture Project “Improving food security by enhancing wheat production and its resilience to climate change through maintaining the diversity of currently grown landraces” supported by European Union.
The conference will be conducted in the beautiful historical city of Istanbul October 22-24, 2019.
