CIMMYT scientist Jelle Van Loon will be participating in two sessions of the UN Climate Change conference, COP25.

Data-Driven Insights for Meaningful Climate Solutions

Where: Action Hub, IFEMA

Van Loon will be presenting a concept proposal on data visualization and AI integration for sustainability, during a session hosted by Qlik.

Qlik & experts will discuss real-world, data-driven collaborations and actions that are taking place on the front lines in the fight against climate change. Leveraging data-intensive technologies such as AI and machine learning, new predictive models can show which actions drive the most impact to inform the creation and execution of new policies. All examples can be replicated by private sector audience members and city and national government actors for action beyond the session and conference.

The event will be streamed live and available on the COP25 website afterwards.

Integration of biodiversity in agriculture: Solutions for sustainable and climate-resilient food systems (side event)

Van Loon will be speaking about Mexico in a panel about sustainable agricultural practices that preserve biodiversity.

This event is organized by the European Union (through the EUROCLIMA+ program), Mexico’s Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER), the German aid agency GIZ, and Germany’s Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).

Stepping up engagement efforts in sub-Saharan Africa to catalyse investments in climate action (side event)

Representatives from CIMMYT and the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) will be presenting an investment pitch on “Transforming crop & livestock production systems for climate resilience in Southern Africa” (maize-legume, sorghum and livestock based), on behalf of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) region.
